Salvatore Piantedosi, an immigrant from Avellino, Italy, founded Piantedosi Baking Co., Inc., in 1916 in Massachusetts. Known as the "midnight Baker" for delivering breads and pasta, anytime day or night, he and his wife Mary worked tirelessly to build an enduring family business committed to honesty, hard work and a passion for bread. Salvatore was a man who possessed an extraordinary ability to transform dreams into reality.

As the business grew, so did the Piantedosi Family. Soon the second generation would run the family business. Piantedosi Baking Company had grown into a small bakery store in Everett, Massachusetts. The commitment to quality and service reputation of the "Midnight Baker" was still alive and attracted people from miles around who came for Piantedosi's legendary fresh pasta, pastries and breads.

As business progressed the second generation noted a decline in pasta and pastry sales as fresh bread sales increased. They knew that in order to be successful and raise the business to a new and in demand level they would need to sacrifice the pasta and pastry part of their business in order to cultivate what has become the main focus of the business - fresh bread products.

Piantedosi Baking Company, Inc. flourished and became a New England known name among the restaurant industry. As the company continued to grow so did the family and soon enough the third generation would own the Family business and continue the dedication for quality and service of the "Midnight Baker."

As the food industry stirred towards frozen foods, the third Piantedosi generation - now owners - knew that they had an opportunity to continue to grow the business by finding a niche in the frozen market. They worked tirelessly to introduce the Piantedosi name across the country and have managed to build a national name for themselves in the vast, competitive, food service industry. National existence meant soaring demand. In order to keep up with the competition the Family decided that additional space and experience was needed.

In 1995 they opened up Piantedosi's "Specialty Division." This state-of-the-art 70,000 Sq. Ft. facility, focuses on the parbaked (partially baked) end of the business, which has become a necessity in the bread industry. The Specialty Division also houses Piantedosi's R&D Department. It is where new items are thought of, formulated and created.

Additionally, the Family brought in outside leadership to help guide the company in its multi-plant expansion. The combination of tenured Piantedosi employees and new management has unified the company, streamlined operations, and encouraged a higher degree of professionalism within the company.

Today, Piantedosi offers its customers big company capabilities and innovations with small company attention and loyalties. The company's dignified heritage has been preserved over the years, making it possible for each generation to strive for greatness and reach new heights. And while changes abound at the Piantedosi Baking Company, the commitment to quality and service remains.
